Poco X2: Proof that Xiaomi’s India Campaign is a Mess

As technology continues to improve, it is only inevitable that consumers eventually get a wider abundance of choices to pick from. Whilst choice is good however, with recent rumours of Xiaomi’s tactic for bringing its “popular” K30 Pro to India, we start to be able to see how too many choices can make things.. just a little bit complicated.

A Quick Run Down History Lane

Anyone in the tech community still remembers the day as if it was today - crowds cheered and journalists typed rapidly as Xiaomi entered the stage to shake down the smartphone market once again; this, of course, was the launch of the Xiaomi Pocophone F1. Offering all the performance that the One Plus brand was known for - at a much lower starting price - the Pocophone F1 made users question if the One Plus budget pioneer was really doing its consumers justice.

Skip a few months, and after much Pocophone F1 hype, Xiaomi came to the stage again with yet another idea: the Redmi K20 Pro. Fixing seemingly every issue that made the Pocophone F1 distinguished as a “budget” device, the K20 Pro had a much more premium looking exterior, as well as a great camera - all for just a bit more than the Pocophone F1 was originally offered for.

With two products in perfect harmony, Xiaomi offered both a completely budget option - as well as a more premium feeling option for those looking for something that felt nicer, but still didn’t want to break the bank.

And… It’s Complicated

With recent talk of Xiaomi bringing its controversial K30 Pro, many have pointed to the a likely, yet ultimately mind bending idea: that the K30 Pro, is in fact the long rumoured Pocophone X2. Now Pocophone fans can rest assured that despite this odd release, there is still a fair chance that Pocophone’s mainline F2 will still be released sometime this year.

Nevertheless, we find that this release is.. odd. To combine two brands that were ultimately created to be different, seems a bit hypocritical to say the least. Beyond that, we have already gone in great detail as to why we believe that the K20 Pro is a superior device to the K30 Pro, making its release under the Pocophone brand seem like a blatant stab to the brand that in our opinion - can do a lot better.
